At the start of this year, GHS welcomed a new assistant principal, Mrs. Margeaux Davis who is excited to create a culturing climate for all. Mrs. Davis has been working in the educational field for most of her career, including spending 18 years as an English teacher at Carthage and as head of the 9th grade academy at Carthage. Before being a principal, she was the Supervisor of Instructional Resources at St. Lawrence Lewis BOCES where she worked with many local districts, including Gouverneur. She also spent a year of her teaching career in the Watertown school district where she was an English AIS teacher. Mrs. Davis grew up in the North Country, spending her school years at Clifton-Fine until her senior year when she moved to Carthage to be a part of the musical there since Clifton-Fine’s was unfortunately canceled. Outside of the school environment, Mrs.Davis enjoys all things adventure including snowmobiling, and spending a vast amount of time in nature and the Adirondacks. She spends the majority of her time around kids, including her own. Mrs.Davis also travels a lot for her kids as they are widely involved with athletics. As well as athletics, Mrs.Davis loves all things involving theater and music and loves to sing and attend concerts.
Mrs.Davis didn’t always want to be a principal as she loved being in the classroom and enjoyed her role as a teacher, but she wanted to help and reach students in a way she couldn’t as a teacher. She wanted to do more to reach students on a deeper level. She wanted to be a part of initiating a change for the better in our school, taking a proactive approach, saying, “If I don’t do it, who will?” She looks forward to creating a culturing climate where students truly want to show up to school every day with a positive attitude. Mrs. Davis intends to build positive relationships with all students and staff and help all have the best possible outcomes and opportunities available to them. She has the best intentions in mind for our school and intends to stay here for as long as possible.
Ms.Davis absolutely loves our school community so far! She loves how her days are busy from start to finish and she is always finding things to do to engage with students. She believes that every day presents something new to her. Mrs. Davis is extremely grateful that everyone has been so welcoming and patient with her as she adjusts to her new role in our school. She ultimately believes that the positive outweighs the negative and coming to school every day is more about what she can do in a day for the benefit of all rather than her daily to-do list. Mrs.Davis loves interacting with everyone in all ways possible and encouraging positivity. Her favorite part of coming to school every day is being able to engage with everyone as she believes it is of extreme importance to build and maintain positive relationships with all.
Mrs.Davis feels lucky to be a wildcat and be a part of our community. She knew she would fit right in with our students and staff, especially with her prior experience with other schools and students. She also had prior experience with some of our staff in her role as the supervisor of instructional resources and knew she wouldn’t be a total stranger to our school community. Her biggest motivation is knowing that she is coming to school every day with a positive attitude and the best intentions in mind for all. Mrs. Davis has advice for all at GHS: “Don’t talk about it, be about it.” She believes that you must be willing to put in the work to accomplish something or to make a change rather than just simply talking about it. Mrs.Davis is happy to be a part of our community and cannot wait to see where the school year takes her! Mrs. Davis is a great addition to our school and we can’t wait to see her around!
