Everyone, give a warm Wildcat welcome to our newest addition to the art department, Miss Medley! Miss Medley will be teaching Ceramics, Studio Art, and Sculpture here at GHS. She grew up nearby in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School. She further pursued her education at SUNY Potsdam, majoring in Studio Art and Curriculum/Instruction. Before teaching at Gouverneur, she taught elementary art at Indian River for four years.
Miss Medley’s inspiration for becoming a teacher was her father. He was a high school teacher, and she always looked up to him. She decided to combine her passion for art with the inspiration from her father to become an art teacher. She says that she hopes to help her students not only improve their artistic abilities, but also express themselves, reach their own goals, and find their own passions. Miss Medley is excited to do more advanced art projects than she was able to with her former elementary students.
Miss Medley is excited to work in Gouverneur’s already wonderful art program and possibly help improve it even more! She says that Gouverneur is a great community with some very well-rounded students. She hopes to help with some athletic programs, including swimming with her good friend, Mr. Worden, with whom she graduated from SUNY Potsdam and who coaches swimming. One message she wants everyone to know is, “Never be afraid to try something new.” We’re all glad to have a wonderful teacher like Miss Medley here and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes. Let’s help make her first year great!
