Everyone, give a warm Wildcat welcome to our new business teacher, Mrs. LaJoy! Mrs. LaJoy will be teaching all of our business classes, including Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, Intro to Business, and Accounting, and she will be adding new classes in the second semester. She grew up in Hammond and graduated from Hammond Central School. She furthered her education at multiple universities, including SUNY Canton, where she studied Business Administration; SUNY Oswego, where she studied Vocational and Technical Education; and SUNY Potsdam, where she earned her master’s degree.
Before coming to Gouverneur, Mrs. LaJoy taught for many years at her home school of Hammond. While at Hammond, she taught many classes, including Business and Health, before retiring. Her inspiration for becoming a teacher was her Secretarial teacher at BOCES. She always looked up to her and actually wanted to become a Secretarial teacher at a BOCES herself! Outside of teaching at Hammond, she has also taught at correctional facilities and universities.
Mrs. LaJoy came out of retirement to teach here at GHS. While at Gouverneur, she hopes to help revamp the business program. She is looking forward to some exciting opportunities, including guest speakers (she’s still looking for more!) and even possible job shadowing. Mrs. LaJoy hopes to help her students gain business and financial skills that they can apply to their lives outside of school and into adulthood. She is enjoying Gouverneur so far. She says Gouverneur is a lot bigger than her home school of Hammond, which she enjoys because she gets to meet a lot of new people. We can’t wait to see what Mrs. LaJoy does with the business program here at GHS, and we’re all glad that she’s here! Let’s make her first year as a Wildcat great!
